Retreat notes, II (Where we meet)

Second day of our great adventure into the heart of life.
Sometimes I forget about it, forget that this is a retreat, only realizing that I’ve forgotten when I remember.
And then suddenly as I put the key in my door upon returning from a lunch date, the « world » is beyond imagination and yet right here: The essential « point » where we all meet, where I meet every single one, has no shape, color, name or form to speak of! It is not a place or an hour or an activity.
Yet in the middle of this shared practice, I share your meanders, your joys and sorrows, your ups and downs.
Today we all have a sick child, a dog to walk, a flat tire, a headache, a bus, train or plane to catch.
Someone said to me today, « You really are like wild flowers, spread all over! »
Indeed. Here we all are.

    Travel from Paris to Montreuil/World
Bom dia, we bow, zazen, we bow, au revoir, see you tonight, enjoy your day
Travel back from Montreuil/World to Paris

    Back to everyday life
And we will meet again tonight in World/Montreuil
As if we shared our everyday life, as if we lived all together…

I feel " one week sesshin" at the same place with the same schedule intensive, and in a way apart
I feel "in the heart of life seshin" intimately linked and tissé to my everyday life

Yesterday I lost my (internet) connection… "I’m isolated", I thought. Then, sitting I felt you with me, bowing with me, in the strength that keeps me motivating to start anew every moment.

If we don’t practice each moment, when then?
    Thank you all and each!

    Dear friends,
This morning I sat at my place in Ghent. It was precious: such an awareness sitting alone and together with you all in so many places in the world. It feels like we all together give hands, every sitting one hand in a chain of hands over the world…. And now morning sitting is over. I travel to Brussels to work, so we let the hands and yet …I /we keep each other in mind …let’s be more clear: keeping in mind is keeping in heart.
So, I go and I make a bow: thank you all, have a nice day , let’s share and share from the heart with everyone we meet . Thank you all, thank you sensei it is very special to live our lives so conscious together this week!

day 3: neighbors’ conversations and the morning rush. a girl talking about the math professor and a women rushing the girl to take breakfast. mother and daughter maybe. remember sometimes that am in retreat. other occasions not. it is strange. life seems a continuous retreat. to be in touch with myself. just to be myself. wish all a very good day

Sat next to my two boys last evening as they went to sleep.
Afterwards reflecting on my day and asking what’s "different"?
Because we are practicing together, there is a strengthened inner vow not to reside in, or indulge, those habitual mechanical states in which I am mostly blind and deaf, but to wake up and practice anew.. Thanking you all for helping nurture this vow with your sincere practice energy..

day two: car at the garage, big bill, interview, listen to life stories, discussions in the city traffic, late dinner, tired, rainy morning and hot afternoon

day 2, morning upside down. Evening sitting would be on schedule.

odd feeling of this difuse connection, not here nor there. Nowhere.
