What an inspiration it was seeing that grand old punk poet Patti Smith perform last night in Paris. What’s inspiring for me is her freedom as an artist, as a woman, as a human being… And how she makes use of her time and place and art, her position in the public eye, to encourage us all not to be submissive to the powers that be — corporate, political, economic, religious, intellectual, artistic.

Patti Smith is just herself, nothing more nothing less. And just being herself, she shows us the way to just be us.
